Bianca and Matt (or should I say Mr. and Mrs. Harless?!) dreamt of a wedding day that was the very definition of business in the front, party in the back—and they absolutely nailed it. Their special day was all things class, elegance, and chic at first glance, but they weren’t afraid to kick off the party when the time was right. I am so grateful that I not only got to photograph their engagement session in Georgetown, DC, but also be there for their breathtaking wedding at Poplar Springs Manor!

I love a good colorful wedding, but a sharp, sophisticated black-and-white theme just hits different. I was fawning over the details the moment I gathered them for photos while the bride and groom got ready: the black and white vow book and stationery, Bianca’s polished white heels and brand new gifted black Marc Jacobs tote, Matt’s iconic black Gucci bowtie. . . these two dress to impress and they know it. Even Bianca’s bridesmaids wore black silk getting ready robes instead of white, eventually changing into classic black gowns once Bianca was in her dress and ready to go!

I love a couple who isn’t afraid to change up tradition and trade a black groom’s tux for a sharp white jacket, like Matt did, or swap the usual wedding party attire for an all-black look. And who needs colorful florals when you’ve got bunches of delicate baby’s breath for the bridesmaids’ bouquets & boutonnieres, and a chic bouquet of white roses for the bride? Black and white will never go out of style—it’s the definition of timeless.

Highlighted by stunning white and green floral arrangements that beautifully adorned their ceremony arch, Bianca and Matt’s wedding decorations creating a fresh and timeless backdrop. The reception, with its simple yet elegant decor accented by touches of gold, perfectly complemented the overall aesthetic of the day. The charming ballroom of Poplar Springs Manor provides a naturally beautiful setting, making it effortless to create a beautiful atmosphere without the need for excessive decorations. It was a celebration that seamlessly blended understated elegance with natural beauty, making for an unforgettable day!

While Bianca did have a first look with her father, she and Matt actually chose not to have one themselves. Many couples I work with opt to have a first look before their ceremony, so the whole tradition of seeing each other at the altar isn’t so traditional anymore! However, there is no right or wrong way to do this—it’s entirely up to you and what would be most special for you as a couple.
Here are a few benefits of doing a pre-ceremony first look:
Whereas these are the benefits of saving your first look for the altar:
Again, neither option is “correct.” If you’re having trouble deciding, though, I’m more than happy to help you figure out what best aligns with your wedding vision, values, and priorities.

When Bianca told me she absolutely needed photos under the twinkle lights in the trees, I said say less. We stepped out before their reception started for newlywed portraits, exploring the grassy fields and stopping along the pathway lit up by strings of fairy lights! The photos of Matt dipping Bianca for a kiss between the trees are probably some of my favorites from the day.

The celebration wasn’t anywhere near over yet, with an amazing reception set up in the venue’s Stone Ballroom. These two had a blast celebrating while their guests surrounded them with glow sticks, toasted to their love, and shared a delicious (and gorgeous) cake with them. One of my favorite moments of the day came during their reception, when I snapped a film photo of Bianca and Matt with their heart-eye sunglasses on and drinks in hand—I am SO happy they decided to add instant film to their day!

“She was able to capture the best moments that we will remember for a lifetime”
“Megan was amazing!! To start off, she was very responsive and helpful in sending us tips and vendors that she recommended. Our first experience with her was our engagement shoot and pictures came out just like we wanted. Our wedding pictures were even better! She captured every little detail and moment of our wedding. She was able to capture the best moments that we will remember for a lifetime. She was not only the best photographer we’ve ever experienced but she also has the best personality. She made the experience fun and very easy and comfortable for my wife and I. We will definitely be using her in the future!” – Bianca & Matt
