This September I had the absolute pleasure of capturing Kaitlin and Kyle’s engagement session in one of my new favorite places. With beautiful morning light, marble architecture, and bustling downtown sidewalks, this sunrise engagement session in Washington D.C can be summed up in one word: timeless.
When Kaitlin reached out to me to book her engagement session, I immediately recognized her name as the girl I sat next to in a college calculus class many years ago! We giggled about still having eachothers names in our cellphones as “Megan Math 153” and “Kaitlin Calc”, and excitedly chatted about her endeavors after earning her degree, her outfit ideas, and her anticipation for our session together.
As a wedding and couples photographer, I have always been drawn to the unique architecture surrounding the Washington D.C. and DMV area, which beautifully compliment the couples that choose to take photographs there. We began our session at the Jefferson Memorial, the stunning marble structure and stairs paired with the Tidal Basin and soft green grass make for the most romantic scenery to pair with your engagement session. Kaitlin and Kyle strolled around different parts of the memorial, cuddled on the stairs, and shared kisses against the pillars while I blushed behind my camera. Their smiles never left their faces as I captured their love. On our way to our second location, I spotted the most beautiful view and convinced Kaitlin and Kyle to stop for a quick photo. I was in awe at the way the Jefferson Memorial peeked out behind the trees and the morning light illuminated the water.
After Kaitlin changed into the most gorgeous patterned dress, we moved into the bustling city for the rest of our session. D.C is the cutest place to go to for a walk with your lover (bonus points if you bring me along)! Kaitlin and Kyle admired art around the outside of the National Gallery of Art, playfully trotted across crosswalks, and snuck in kisses on sidewalks with Capitol Hill making it’s morning debut in the background. Their entire session was filled with so much love, these two were definitely meant to be together.
Kaitlin and Kyle’s Washington D.C engagement session began early in the morning right at sunrise. The soft sun made the 4am wake up call SO worth it though. I absolutely love sunrise sessions, especially in busy cities, for so many reasons. Local traffic (and parking) in Washington D.C. is never fun during any part of the day, but it’s so much more manageable in the early morning! Another great benefit to doing a sunrise session? No crowds! We could have counted the number of people that were around the Jefferson Memorial when we began our session with one hand. A sunrise session is also a great excuse to sneak in a breakfast date with your lover after your engagement session is over! I highly recommend Le Bon Café or Ted’s Bulletin around the DC area!
“She made my fiancé and I feel so comfortable in front of the camera”
“Megan is nothing short of amazing! She made my fiancé and I feel so comfortable in front of the camera. Her passion for photography and her clients shines through. We couldn’t have asked for a better session. She was super quick to get us a sneak peek and we were thrilled with the final results. I highly recommend her!” – Kaitlin
