Introduction

This May, I had the absolute pleasure of capturing Makayla and Kevin’s downtown engagement session in Roanoke, Virginia. During our consultations, Makayla mentioned how much she loved downtown/city style couples photos and I knew downtown Roanoke would be just perfect! This charming city mixed with brick and marble buildings, rooftop views, and stunning spiral staircases made for the perfect backdrop of this spring photoshoot.

The Location

The smiles on this couple never faded as we ran all across the city taking portraits. I captured romantic photos of the Makayla and Kevin crossing brick crosswalks, laughing together on stone stairs, and running through beautiful green grass. We eventually ended the session with the couple cuddling up against a gorgeous marble building tucked away downtown. I came across this building on a stroll while shooting a wedding downtown and just knew I had to take someone back there for photos! (Cue me taking a crappy iphone photo of the building mid-walk and frantically trying to remember where it was the next day).

We started shooting at Downtown Roanoke’s beloved Center in the Square rooftop featuring the best views of the city. I gave Makayla and Kevin the freedom to put their own spin on any of the poses I put them in. They chatted and giggled while holding each other, and bumped hips while walking hand in hand. We took advantage of the beautiful spiral staircase and captured some amazing photos of Kevin leading Makayla down in her gorgeous black dress from French Connection and heels.

Makayla and Kevin were such a joy to work with. I felt like their paparazzi for the evening and couldn’t have had more fun with them! Their session fueled my creativity and allowed me to step back and capture their relationship authentically in one of the most beautiful cities in Virginia. I’m so happy they chose me to capture their engagement photos, the pure joy you can see on their faces is absolutely priceless.
